The amount of storage limits the length of possible trips and where you can go. For longer journeys there should be plenty of room for clothes, food, cooking equimpent and bedding and well as emergency equipment and a set of essential tools. Small panel vans suffer in that they have no external 'dirty' storage for tools, ground mats, electric cables and the like. External boxes can be attached to a van for extra storage. Larger vans are great in that they generally have a large external storage area, capable of holding a folding table, chairs and sometimes bikes too.

The more storage you have the more flexibility there is with destinations and times of year.
