Italy - Country Guide
Summary
Italy is a land of myth, history and artistic achievement. This mountainous, boot-shaped country is surrounded by the Mediterranean sea and separated from the rest of Europe by the Alps. Italy has an immense depth of history and culture with its Roman ruins, medieval hill towns, renaissance arts and beautiful churches. There are also the more modern sights with vibrant cities and hundreds of miles of sandy beaches.
Highlights
Capri
The island of Capri has always been a very popular and expensive destination and is located just at the end of the Sorrento Peninsula with great views over the Bay of Naples.
Rome
Rome's centre contains so many cultural and historic sites it's impossible to appreciate them all. Besides the Roman remains, there are churches and monuments as well as many beautiful piazzas complete with Renaissance statues and fountains
Venice
If there's one city you could fall in love with, it's definitely Venice. A city like no other, many days can be spent exploring Venice's labyrinth of streets, some following canals, crossing over elegant bridges or just disappearing into the waters. Every corner leads you onto a quaint canal, a narrow street or opens out unexpectedly onto a large square, perhaps with a lovely white marble church.
