Florence - Italy

Basilica, Florence Uffizi Gallery, FlorenceBasilica, FlorenceRooftop View, FlorenceBoboli Gardens, Florence

There are amazing murals all over the Florence along with some beautifully ornate churches so it's well worth a walk around away from the main tourist haunts.

The cathedral is very impressive, dominating the skyline of the city and the fourth largest in the world. It's really huge close up and finished in white, grey and pink. The front is incredibly detailed and it is accompanied by a baptistry and bell tower.

The impressive Uffizi Gallery holds the largest collection of Renaissance art in the world - but is extremely busy and worth booking tickets ahead to avoid the massive queues.

Other higlights include:
The Royal Apartments in the impressive Palazzo Pitti
Boboli gardens with lovely views over the city and maze of hedges and pathways
Ponte Vecchio - lined with gold and silver smiths this is the only bridge in Florence to survive the Second World War
Piazzale Michelangelo - very popular with the locals and providing the best view of the city especially at sunset
