Singapore River - Singapore

Merlion Statue and Skyscrapers Merlion Statue and Marina Bay

The Singapore River is the heart of the modern city. The warehouses along Boat Quay have all now been converted into restaurants and bars and cater to the international workers in the nearby central business district. Here gleaming skyscrapers tower over the city and the waterfront beyond.

The Marina Bay has been created from land reclaimation - the famous Raffles Hotel once stood on the shore on Beach Road but is now quite a distance from the sea. The reclaimed land is full of hotels and shopping centres as well as the bizzare Marina Bay Sands complex - which dominates the skyline to one side.

Under all this sits Singapore's emblem, the strange Merlion. This status is set in it's own small park and spouts water into the bay.
