Little India - Singapore

Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, Little India

Little India is the least Singaporean are of the city. It's chaotic, full of noise and the smell of incense and curry powder. Vegetatian Indian restaurants abound, serving a fantastic choice of Tamil and other Indian cuisine.

Little India has it's share of temples hidden between the low rise shop houses - the colourful Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple is the biggest of these. The district is also home to many shops - the massive Mustafa centre is one of the largest department stores in the world, selling pretty much everything you might ever need.

The Tekka centre is one of the best hawker centres in the city, serving an amazing variety of food from hundereds of tiny kitchens, each specialising in one or two dishes. This hectic mass of smells and cusine shows the true heart of Singapore.
