Nerja - Spain

Nerja is a seaside resort town located at the far eastern end of the Costa Del Sol.  Unlike many of the neighbouring towns, high rise development hasn't affected the town which remains partially still a working town, with whitewashed houses cascading down the hillside.

There are several sheltered coves on the western edge of the town, while the eastern has a large sandy beach where tourists mix with the local fishermen.  Nerja's unique feature is the grand Balcon de Europa, a large public square and viewing platform with stunning views over the coastline in both directions.  This serves as meeting point during the day and is surrounded with cafes and bars.  In the evening the Balcon comes alive again with locals out for a stroll.

Nerja's other major attraction in the caves just out of town.  These are some of the most impressive caves in the region, with some truly magnificent formations.  Highlights are the main hall, where music concerts are performed regularly, and the giant column which standing at 32 metres high is the biggest in the world.
