Necessary Documents

While you're travelling abroad, make sure you are carrying the correct documentation with you at all times. It's worth having a photocopies of everything as this makes retrieving your details much easier. Email a photocopy of your important documents to yourself to ensure you can always access a copy.

Some things you may need to consider are:

  • Passport - must be carried with you at all times as proof if identity is legally required in many countries.
  • Travel Insurance documents and contact number
  • European Health Insurance Card (replaces the old E111 form)
  • Money - with back up bank cards and credit cards

If driving you'll need to carry the following documents with you at all times. The UK is about the only country that does not require you to have proof of ownership and your driving licence on you at all times.

  • Driving license - including paper counterpart.
  • Proof of ownership - V5 registration certificate
  • MOT certificate
  • Insurance certificate and contact numbers
  • Breakdown insurance and contact numbers
